Ok, if you are reading this then either the cling film trick doesn't appeal or like me after using it for 2 years it itself has worn out. I decided to fit the eccentric guides from toyota as they provide a way of increasing the clamping pressure of the t-bars onto the window seals. That and the parts are dirt cheap which is unusal for any toyota dealer parts. Ok parts needed are :

the rod guides from toyota - about £2.60GBP each and you need 2 per side = 4
t-bar rod guides from toyota part no 63263-17040
the metric machine screws - I bought a pack of 10 from B&Q, local hardware store for £1.30GBP
metric machine screws M4 x 10mm
At this point I would like to direct you to the fine site where I got the info for this job. Great step by step info and it can be found by using this link. Can't recommend it enough and no point me repeating the same info here so I'm not going to bother ;-).
